Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World (Re:ゼロから始める異世界生活) is a dark fantasy isekai anime.

Quick synopsis: Ordinary high school student Subaru Natsuki is suddenly transported from modern Japan to a fantasy world after leaving a convenience store. Almost immediately, he encounters (and tries to help) a beautiful silver-haired half-elf girl named Emilia, who's a candidate for the throne of the kingdom.

Things go horribly wrong very quickly—Subaru dies violently... only to wake up back at the exact moment he first arrived in the world, discovering he has the mysterious ability called "Return by Death": whenever he dies, time rewinds to a previous "checkpoint," letting him try again with his memories intact.

The series follows Subaru as he repeatedly lives through brutal loops of suffering, betrayal, tragedy, and psychological torment while desperately trying to protect Emilia, uncover the secrets of the world, and break the endless cycle of death. It's known for being extremely intense, emotionally punishing, and subverting many typical isekai tropes—focusing heavily on trauma, consequences, character growth, and mental breakdown rather than easy power fantasies.
