Beatrice

Beatrice is one of the most iconic characters in Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World.

She is a centuries-old Great Spirit who takes the appearance of a small, delicate girl with long cream-colored drill-shaped twin tails, wearing an elaborate gothic lolita-style dress. She usually speaks in an archaic, formal manner and frequently ends her sentences with the verbal tic "I suppose / kashira" (in Japanese).

Beatrice is the librarian and guardian of the Forbidden Library in Roswaal's mansion. She has lived there alone for a very long time under a contract, waiting for "That Person" who is destined to either take her away or give her purpose. Initially cold, sarcastic, and dismissive toward Subaru (often calling him "I suppose" variations of insults like "halfwit" or "fool"), she gradually develops a complex, deep bond with him over the course of the story.

She's extremely powerful magically (specializing in Yin Magic / Shadow/Darkness magic), capable of devastating spells like Shamak and El Minya, but she also carries a great deal of loneliness and emotional weight beneath her prickly exterior.
