Rickert Hoffman

Rickert Hoffman is a supporting character in Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World. He is a middle-aged noble who served as the former Royal Instructor of the Kingdom of Lugunica and acts as a central figure among the kingdom's noble civil officials.

He appears prominently during the early stages of Arc 3 (around the Royal Selection process), where he openly voices strong objections to certain candidates. In particular, he discriminates against Emilia (due to her half-elf heritage, referring to her derogatorily as a "half-devil") and Felt (due to her slum origins), arguing that the throne should go to someone "suitable" rather than whoever was conveniently found.

Despite his prejudiced outbursts and initial harsh attitude, the series' author has described him as fundamentally a "very nice person" at heart, and he later shows signs of growth—such as apologizing to Felt after learning she might be of royal blood (as the kidnapped daughter of Ford Lugunica). He also has a strained relationship with his son, Rachins Hoffman (known as "Chin"), who ran away from the family to live in the slums.

Overall, Rickert is a minor but memorable character who represents conservative noble sentiment in Lugunica's political landscape, though he hasn't yet played a major ongoing role in the main story.
