Louanna Astrea

Louanna Astrea is a minor but significant background character in Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World. She is the wife of Heinkel Astrea and the mother of Reinhard van Astrea (the current Sword Saint).

She is described as an exceptionally beautiful woman with long blonde hair and blue eyes. Louanna fell into a mysterious comatose state known as the "Sleeping Beauty" condition when Reinhard was around two years old, and she has remained in suspended animation ever since (for about 17+ years by the main story's timeline). This illness resembles the effects of the Authority of Gluttony but is a separate affliction with no known cure so far, even from top healers like Felix.

Her condition deeply impacts her family: it drives much of Heinkel's desperation and poor decisions (including joining Priscilla's camp in hopes of obtaining Dragon's Blood to wake her), and it contributes to the strained dynamics within the Astrea household, including Reinhard's childhood and family relationships.

Louanna herself doesn't appear actively in the main story (she remains asleep), though she is mentioned in arcs like Arc 5 and has some presence in flashbacks or side content. She was portrayed as kind, easygoing, and supportive while awake, having believed in Heinkel's potential as a future Sword Saint.
