About JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (often abbreviated as JoJo or JJBA) is a long-running manga series by Hirohiko Araki (with anime adaptations) that's famous for its over-the-top action, dramatic poses, stylish fashion, meme-worthy moments, and increasingly wild supernatural battles.

At its core, it's a multi-generational saga following the Joestar family (whose members often go by the nickname "JoJo") as they battle evil forces across different eras. The story is split into separate Parts (currently 9 in the manga), each with a new main protagonist from the Joestar bloodline, new settings, and evolving power systems.

Quick Power Evolution

  • Early parts: Vampire stuff + Hamon/Ripple (sun-energy martial arts breathing technique).
  • Later parts: Stands — psychic manifestations of a person's fighting spirit that grant superhuman abilities (think personalized superpowers with crazy rules and creative fights). This is what most people associate with modern JoJo.

Very Brief Part Overviews (Spoiler-Light)

  • Part 1: Phantom Blood (1880s England) — Gentlemanly Jonathan Joestar vs. his ruthless adoptive brother Dio Brando, who becomes a vampire using an ancient Stone Mask.
  • Part 2: Battle Tendency (1930s) — Jonathan's grandson Joseph Joestar fights ancient super-beings (Pillar Men) with Hamon and trickery.
  • Part 3: Stardust Crusaders (1980s–90s) — Jotaro Kujo and allies road-trip across continents to defeat the revived Dio, introducing Stands. (This is where JoJo becomes the "iconic" style for most fans.)
  • Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable (1990s small town Japan) — More slice-of-life mystery + Stand battles against a serial killer.
  • Part 5: Golden Wind (2000s Italy) — Giorno Giovanna (Dio's son) aims to reform the mafia from within.
  • Part 6: Stone Ocean — Jolyne Cujoh (Jotaro's daughter) in prison, huge stakes involving reality itself.
  • Parts 7–9 (Steel Ball Run, JoJolion, The JOJOLands) — These take place in an alternate universe/timeline reset after Part 6, with new Joestar descendants, horse races, cursed body parts, and modern crime stories.

It's equal parts heroic adventure, horror, comedy, fashion, and absurd creativity in fights. The tone shifts a lot between parts—starting more serious/classical, then getting increasingly eccentric and memeable.

If you're thinking of watching/reading, many people start with Part 3 (Stardust Crusaders) since that's where the "classic JoJo" vibe with Stands kicks in, but watching from Part 1 gives the full family legacy context. It's bizarre, but that's the point! 😎
