Jonathan Joestar is the main protagonist of the first part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, titled Phantom Blood, as adapted in the 2012 anime series.
He is the son of the wealthy George Joestar I, living in late 19th-century England. Jonathan is portrayed as a tall (around 195 cm / 6'5"), extremely muscular young man with short dark hair (often depicted as blue in the anime), a strong jawline, and a noble, gentlemanly demeanor.
Personality-wise, he is the epitome of a classic Victorian gentleman: honest, kind-hearted, gentle, positive, and deeply honorable. He embodies righteousness, courage, and empathy—even toward his enemies—while showing righteous fury against true evil. His life becomes filled with tragedy after his adoptive brother Dio Brando enters the picture, leading Jonathan to learn Hamon (Ripple), a special energy-based fighting technique used to combat supernatural threats like vampires.
In the anime, his voice (Japanese: Katsuyuki Konishi in the main series) and overall presentation emphasize his pure, heroic nature as the foundational "JoJo" of the entire franchise.
