About Johnny Joestar

Johnny Joestar is the main protagonist of Steel Ball Run, the seventh part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (which received its anime adaptation starting in March 2026 on Netflix).

In the anime (adapted from the manga), he's depicted as a former horse-racing prodigy and genius jockey who became paraplegic after being shot in the spine during an incident tied to his arrogant and self-centered behavior in his youth. Now wheelchair-bound and deeply depressed, viewing himself as useless, Johnny enters the cross-continental Steel Ball Run horse race across 1890s America, initially motivated by a desperate hope to regain the use of his legs.

He's a slim, below-average-height young man with light eyes and shoulder-length light hair that curls upward at the ends, often wearing a star-patterned knit cap. His personality starts off cold, distant, self-focused, and burdened by guilt and lack of confidence, but he shows incredible determination and persistence as he learns the Spin technique from his ally Gyro Zeppeli and develops his Stand, Tusk.

He's more ruthless and pragmatic than many earlier Joestar protagonists, willing to kill enemies when necessary, though he retains a core sense of morality and growth throughout the story.
