Sailor Moon

Sailor Moon (original Japanese title: Bishōjo Senshi Sailor Moon) is a classic magical girl anime that follows Usagi Tsukino, a clumsy, crybaby, and somewhat lazy 14-year-old middle school girl in 1990s Tokyo.

Her ordinary life flips upside down when she rescues a black cat named Luna from bullies. Luna reveals herself as a magical advisor from the ancient Moon Kingdom and gives Usagi a special brooch, allowing her to transform into the powerful warrior Sailor Moon, the guardian of love and justice.

Usagi's mission is to locate the legendary Silver Crystal (a powerful artifact) and find the reincarnated Moon Princess, while battling evil forces from the Dark Kingdom (and later other villains across multiple seasons) who want to drain energy from humans, conquer Earth, or destroy everything.

Along the way, she gains allies who awaken as fellow Sailor Guardians (Sailor Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Venus, and eventually more), each representing a planet and bringing their own powers and personalities to the team. There's also the mysterious, rose-throwing Tuxedo Mask, who often helps her (and shares a deep, destined connection with Usagi from a past life).

The story blends school life comedy, friendship, romance, dramatic battles, and themes of growing up, with Usagi maturing from a whiny crybaby into a brave leader who fights for love and justice. The original 90s anime ran for 200 episodes across five seasons, plus movies and specials, and there are also more faithful adaptations like Sailor Moon Crystal.
