Sailor Mars, whose civilian identity is Rei Hino (Raye Hino in some English dubs), is one of the core Inner Sailor Guardians in the 1990s Sailor Moon anime.
In her civilian form, Rei is a beautiful teenage girl with long, straight black hair (often with a subtle purple sheen) and purple eyes. She lives and works as a miko (Shinto shrine maiden) at the Hikawa Shrine in Tokyo, which she helps maintain alongside her grandfather.
Personality-wise, the anime portrays Rei as serious, disciplined, strong-willed, and somewhat hot-headed. She's fiery and quick to temper (especially when scolding Usagi for being lazy or clumsy), but she's deeply loyal, responsible, and protective of her friends. Unlike the more aloof and man-averse version in the manga, the anime version is boy-crazy at times, ambitious (with dreams of becoming a singer, model, or actress), and has a more passionate, outspoken energy. She has genuine psychic/spiritual abilities even before becoming a Sailor Guardian, such as sensing danger through fire readings at the shrine.
As Sailor Mars, she is the Guardian of Fire and Passion (or Love and Passion in her iconic introduction line). Her sailor uniform features red as the dominant color with purple accents, and her powers revolve around fire-based attacks (like Fire Soul), spiritual wards (ofuda scrolls), and clairvoyance.
She's often the no-nonsense voice of reason in the group, though her sharp tongue and arguments with Usagi add a lot of the show's classic comedic tension. Overall, she's a fierce, elegant, and spiritually attuned fighter who balances intensity with deep care for those close to her.
