Yamada Asaemon Shion

Shion (full name Yamada Asaemon Shion) is a prominent character in the Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku anime. He's a high-ranking member (former 4th rank) of the Yamada clan, a group of expert executioners and sword testers who serve the shogunate.

He's completely blind, with his eyes permanently closed and marked by prominent cross-shaped scars across his face (two vertical ones through each eye and one horizontal across the nose/bridge area). He has short, spiky silver/white hair styled in a faux hawk.

Despite his blindness, Shion is an exceptionally skilled swordsman who relies on superhuman senses (like hearing and spatial awareness) to fight with deadly precision. He's calm, analytical, serious, and has a strong sense of justice and discipline. He often makes dry, self-deprecating jokes about his own blindness to lighten tense moments.

In the anime's story, he joins the expedition to the mysterious island as one of the Asaemon monitors/supervisors assigned to oversee a death row convict, bringing his formidable combat abilities and composed demeanor to the dangerous mission. He's voiced by Chikahiro Kobayashi in Japanese (and Reagan Murdock in English).
