Mei

Mei is a mysterious young girl who appears as a small child (looking around 6 years old) in the Hell's Paradise anime. She has long pink hair styled in two braided buns at the back of her head, pink/golden eyes, and typically wears a crimson robe with baggy white pants (or skirt in some depictions), going barefoot.

She's extremely shy, timid, quiet, and innocent—quick to cry or get frightened when things turn dangerous or painful. Despite her fragile demeanor, she shows surprising agility, strength, and mysterious abilities (like glowing fists capable of harming even tough opponents like Gabimaru early on). She forms a quick bond with Yamada Asaemon Sagiri due to her kindness and becomes a key supporting character allied with the human group exploring the island.

Mei is mute or mostly non-verbal at first (communicating little, if at all, initially), and she lives on the island under the care of a protective figure named Hōko. Her childlike body and scarred back hint at a deeper, more ancient backstory tied to the island's supernatural elements and Tao energy, though the anime gradually reveals more about her true nature as events unfold. She's generally good-natured, caring, and thoughtful toward those who show her kindness.
