Aza Chōbei

Aza Chōbei (also spelled Choubei Aza) is a prominent character in the anime Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku (Jigokuraku). He's a notorious death row convict and former bandit leader from Iyo Province, famously dubbed the Bandit King for his long history of violent crimes.

In the anime adaptation, Chōbei is depicted as a tall, lean, and muscular man with messy blonde hair (including a single braid on the right side), striking facial scars across the right side of his face, and a missing eye (a self-inflicted injury from his past to protect his younger brother, Aza Tōma). He starts the island expedition in rugged, torn clothing: a black coat over a red kimono, accessories like bracelets and a beaded necklace, and simple slippers.

Personality-wise, he's ruthless, arrogant, cruel, and highly combative toward most people, viewing violence as his natural way forward and seeing himself almost as his own "god." However, he shows a deep protective side and genuine affection toward his little brother Tōma, who serves as his assigned Yamada Asaemon executioner/monitor — this family bond is one of his few soft spots and a key part of his character in the series.

He's one of the more complex and powerful convicts sent to the mysterious island to retrieve the Elixir of Life for a pardon, and he stands out for his survival instincts, strength, and willingness to push his limits.
