Winry Rockbell

Winry Rockbell is a central supporting character in both the Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood anime series. She is the childhood friend and neighbor of the Elric brothers, Edward and Alphonse, growing up together in Resembool.

In the anime versions:

• She is a highly skilled automail mechanic (prosthetic limb engineer), having learned the craft from her grandmother Pinako Rockbell after her parents (both doctors) were killed during the Ishval Civil War.

Personality-wise, Winry is strong-willed, passionate, and fiery—especially when it comes to her automail work (she takes immense pride in it and gets furious if someone mistreats or damages her creations). She's caring, emotional, and deeply loyal to the Elric brothers, often worrying about their safety and scolding them (particularly Edward) for their recklessness. She has a soft, nurturing side but can be quick-tempered and violent when angry (famously hitting Ed with wrenches).

She plays a crucial emotional role in both anime versions, serving as the "anchor" to their childhood home and a reminder of normal life, while her skills keep Ed's automail functioning throughout their journey.
