About Scar

Scar is a major antagonist in the Fullmetal Alchemist anime (specifically the 2003 series and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, with the latter being the more faithful adaptation of the manga).

In both anime versions, he is a surviving Ishvalan (from the Ishval Civil War), a tall, imposing, muscular man with dark skin, red eyes, short black hair, and a distinctive X-shaped scar across the bridge of his nose and cheeks (hence his nickname). He usually wears a hooded red coat, bandages wrapped around his arms (covering alchemical tattoos), and keeps his right arm (his primary weapon) concealed.

Personality-wise, Scar is driven by intense rage, grief, and a fanatical sense of justice. He views the State Alchemists as mass murderers for their role in the Ishvalan genocide and dedicates himself to hunting them down and killing them one by one. He is deeply religious (devoutly following Ishvalan teachings), speaks little, and acts with cold, methodical determination. Despite his hatred and willingness to kill, he shows a moral code—he refuses to harm innocents or non-alchemists and is conflicted about the cycle of violence he perpetuates.

His signature ability is deconstruction alchemy using his right arm's tattoo (a reverse transmutation circle), allowing him to instantly destroy anything he touches by breaking down its molecular bonds. In the anime, this makes him one of the most terrifying threats to alchemists early on.

Overall, Scar is a tragic, vengeful figure whose actions are rooted in profound loss and a desire for retribution, making him a complex and memorable antagonist in the series.
