Akira Tendou

Akira Tendou (also romanized as Akira Tendo) is the main protagonist of the anime Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead. He's a 24-year-old (at the start) former salaryman who spent years trapped in a soul-crushing black company job, working endless overtime until it left him depressed, exhausted, and broken.

In appearance, he's depicted as a young man of average height with an athletic build, short/wispy black hair (neat during his office days but often ruffled and messy post-apocalypse), wide circular black eyes full of optimism, and thin eyebrows. He frequently sports a big, infectious grin, especially when a wild or risky idea hits him. Pre-zombie outbreak, he wore standard office attire like a button-up shirt, tie, and slacks; afterward, he switches to more casual, practical clothes like a green jacket, white shirt, dark pants, and bright running shoes (and occasionally fun outfits like a shark diving suit for heroic antics).

Personality-wise, Akira starts off as an optimistic, cheerful guy whose spirit was crushed by corporate exploitation. When the zombie apocalypse hits, he experiences an explosive liberation—he's overjoyed because he no longer has to work or follow societal rules. This leads to his iconic reaction: treating the end of the world as a chance to live freely. He creates a "bucket list" of 100 things he wants to do before turning into a zombie, approaching everything with boundless energy, recklessness, loud enthusiasm, and a heroic/childlike sense of fun. He's chaotic, impulsive, big-mouthed, and often dives into dangerous (sometimes near-suicidal) situations without much forethought, but his genuine optimism, kindness, and zest for life make him inspirational and charismatic to those around him. He's essentially a guy rediscovering joy and freedom in the chaos.
