Rory Mercury

Rory Mercury is one of the standout characters in the anime Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakeri (Gate: Thus the JSDF Fought There!).

She is a demigoddess and apostle of Emroy, the god associated with darkness, war, violence, and death. Despite being over 960 years old, she has the appearance of a petite 13-year-old girl, with long black hair, crimson-red eyes, and a gothic lolita-style priestess outfit (a frilly black dress with red accents, stockings, and boots).

Known as "Rory the Reaper," she wields a massive halberd with terrifying skill and grace in battle, where she displays a sadistic, bloodthirsty side while mercilessly cutting down enemies (especially bandits, criminals, or those who offend her god). In the anime, her lips notably shift from pink to purple when she's about to unleash her more dangerous side.

Outside of combat, Rory is surprisingly friendly, playful, and flirtatious—often acting affectionate toward characters like Youji Itami (such as casually sitting on his lap)—with a sweet voice and demeanor that contrasts sharply with her fearsome reputation. She later becomes a religious consultant for the JSDF in the Special Region.

She's a mix of adorable appearance, immense combat power, and a personality that swings between charming/cute and outright terrifying.
