Yōji Itami

Yōji Itami is the main protagonist of the anime Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakeri (Gate: Thus the JSDF Fought There!). He's a 33-year-old First Lieutenant in the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF), leading the Third Recon Team in the Special Region beyond the Gate.

In the anime, Itami is portrayed as a laid-back, self-proclaimed otaku who prioritizes his hobbies—like reading manga, doujinshi, and light novels—over pretty much everything else. He comes across as a slacker who views his military job mainly as a way to fund his interests, often appearing disheveled or uninterested in strict protocol.
