Jean Havoc

Jean Havoc is a supporting character in the Fullmetal Alchemist anime (primarily in both the 2003 series and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, with the Brotherhood version being more faithful to the manga while still having distinct anime adaptations).

He's a chain-smoking, laid-back, somewhat rough-around-the-edges Lieutenant in the Amestrian State Military, serving under Colonel Roy Mustang in the Investigations Office (later part of Mustang's squad). Havoc is Mustang's most trusted subordinate and close friend, often acting as the group's muscle, driver, and comic relief.

Appearance: Tall, lean, blonde hair slicked back, green eyes, and almost always seen with a cigarette dangling from his mouth (even in combat or meetings). He wears the standard blue military uniform, often with the jacket open or sleeves rolled up.

Personality: Casual, sarcastic, and flirtatious (he's notorious for his terrible luck with women—he's constantly trying to pick up girls but almost always gets rejected or fails comically). Despite his goofy, womanizing side, he's fiercely loyal, brave, and competent in battle (skilled with firearms and hand-to-hand combat). He has a strong sense of camaraderie and is one of the few people who can casually tease Mustang without repercussions. In Brotherhood, his arc includes a serious injury that forces him to retire from active duty, highlighting his sacrifice and dedication.

In the 2003 anime, he's more of a straight man to the group's antics; in Brotherhood, he gets more emotional depth and a memorable arc involving his relationship with a civilian woman. He's voiced by Yūki Tai in Japanese (and Mike McFarland in English dubs). Overall, Havoc is the quintessential "cool, smoking sidekick" who adds levity and heart to Mustang's unit.
