Saki Hanajima

Saki Hanajima (often called Hana-chan by her friends) is one of Tohru Honda's closest friends in the Fruits Basket anime (particularly prominent in the 2019 reboot, where her hair is depicted as black).

She has a striking gothic appearance, with long dark hair, pale skin, droopy purple eyes, and a preference for wearing all-black clothing (including dresses, cloaks, or veils outside of school uniform), along with black nail polish. This style, combined with her quiet and mysterious demeanor, makes her seem intimidating or "scary" to many classmates, earning nicknames like "Demon Queen" or "Wave Girl."

Saki is a psychic with the ability to sense people's "waves" (like auras or inner energies) and even send out electric/denpa waves, which she sometimes uses protectively (such as "poison waves" to ward off threats). She struggled to control these powers as a child, leading to a traumatic incident and self-imposed isolation, but Tohru's acceptance helped her find balance and friendship.

Personality-wise, she's perceptive, extremely polite, and usually speaks in a calm, deadpan tone. She's often seen snacking or casually braiding hair, and she's fiercely loyal and protective—especially toward Tohru (acting almost like a "motherly" figure alongside Arisa Uotani). Despite her spooky reputation, she's kind, wise, and deeply caring toward those close to her.
