Hatori Sohma

Hatori Sohma is one of the older cursed members of the Sohma family in the Fruits Basket anime (particularly prominent in the 2019 reboot, which closely follows the manga's portrayal). He is the Dragon of the Chinese Zodiac, though he transforms into a small seahorse (due to the seahorse being seen as a "child dragon") when hugged by the opposite sex or under significant stress.

As the family's private doctor, Hatori is calm, composed, serious, and professional in demeanor—often appearing stern or cold on the surface, with a reserved and perceptive personality. He rarely shows strong emotion and tends to keep people at a distance, but he has a deep, gentle, and caring side beneath that exterior. He's especially close to his cousins Shigure and Ayame (forming a long-standing trio of friends), though he frequently has to rein in their more chaotic behavior.

Hatori has a notable scar over his left eye (leaving him partially blind in that eye), stemming from a traumatic incident involving Akito. He carries heavy responsibilities within the family, including the unique ability to erase memories of outsiders who learn about the curse (a form of hypnosis passed down in his lineage), which he has reluctantly used in painful situations.
