Lernen

Lernen is a highly respected elderly first-class mage in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. He serves as an apprentice to the legendary Great Mage Serie and was the very first mage to achieve first-class rank after the Continental Magic Association was founded. He often oversees the third (and final) stage of the First-Class Mage Exam.

He's depicted as a modest, cautious, and somewhat timid individual — reliable since youth, according to Serie — though he carries deep insecurities about never having lived through the era of the Demon King's war and thus lacking legendary achievements to prove his worth (or Serie's teaching). He specializes in battle-oriented magic (including golem creation) and is powerful enough that even Serie believes he could potentially defeat Frieren in combat.

Physically, he's a wiry old man with slicked-back gray hair, blue eyes, a straight mustache, and typically wears a long white robe.

He plays a notable role during the First-Class Mage Exam arc, including a memorable confrontation with Frieren.
