The Sacred Blacksmith (original Japanese title: Seiken no Blacksmith) is a 2009 anime series (12 episodes) set in a fantasy world 44 years after a devastating war called the Valbanill War, where demon contracts were banned after causing massive destruction.
The story follows Cecily Campbell, a determined but inexperienced young knight from the Independent Trade City of Housman. As a third-generation knight in her noble family, she aims to protect the weak and uphold her heritage, but her skills are lacking.
Early on, during a confrontation in the marketplace with a troubled war veteran, her family's heirloom sword breaks, and she's nearly defeated. She's rescued by the mysterious and skilled blacksmith Luke Ainsworth, who wields an unusual katana. Impressed by his abilities, Cecily seeks him out to forge a new weapon for her.
Luke, a talented but aloof craftsman with a hidden past, along with his cheerful young assistant Lisa, uses special magical forging techniques to create powerful blades. As the story unfolds, the group gets drawn into conflicts involving re-emerging demons, possessed individuals, and threats tied to the old war—including a special "demon sword" that can take human form.
It blends action, fantasy elements like demon battles and magical swordsmithing, some romance, and character growth (especially Cecily improving as a knight), all while exploring themes from the war's aftermath.
It's a fairly straightforward heroic fantasy with adventure and light ecchi elements—nothing too deep, but enjoyable for fans of sword-and-sorcery stories!
