Kim Sangshik

Kim Sangshik (also referred to as Sang-shik Kim) is a supporting character in the Solo Leveling anime, appearing as a D-Rank Korean Hunter.

In the anime adaptation, he's portrayed as a middle-aged man with short gray/crew-cut hair, often dressed casually yet neatly (like a blue blazer over a white shirt and jeans in some scenes). He comes across as an ordinary, somewhat rough-around-the-edges family man who's deeply motivated by his wife and child — he prioritizes simply surviving raids and returning home over chasing big rewards or glory.

He's one of the survivors of the traumatic Double Dungeon incident (Cartenon Temple) from early in the series, where he made the pragmatic but selfish choice to flee and abandon weaker party members (including a then-E-Rank Sung Jinwoo) to save himself. This decision leaves lingering resentment, especially from Jinwoo, though later moments show Kim carrying guilt and fear from that experience.

Overall, the anime presents him as a realistic, flawed low-rank hunter — friendly on the surface, coffee-loving in daily life, but haunted by trauma and driven primarily by family responsibility rather than heroism.
