Riley

Riley (Japanese name: Gen) is a character who appears in the Pokémon anime during the Diamond and Pearl series, specifically in the two-part episode set on Iron Island ("Steeling Peace of Mind!" and the follow-up).

He is a skilled Pokémon Trainer who specializes in Steel-type Pokémon and is training to become an Aura Guardian. Riley has the ability to sense and use Aura, much like Ash and the legendary figure Sir Aaron (he shares visual similarities with Sir Aaron, such as his outfit style). His main partner is a powerful Lucario, with whom he shares a deep bond through their mutual Aura sensitivity; they communicate and fight in sync effectively.

Personality-wise, Riley is calm, caring, and protective—he views Iron Island as a special place (like a "home for his soul") and strongly opposes anyone who disrupts its peace, such as when he confronts disturbances caused by Team Galactic's activities affecting the local Steel-types. He first meets Ash and his friends by saving Ash from a rampaging Aggron and helps resolve the island's issues.

He's portrayed as mature, level-headed, and heroic in his brief anime appearance.
