About Mr. Briney

Mr. Briney (also known as Old Man Hagi in Japanese) is a supporting character in the Pokémon anime, specifically appearing in the Hoenn saga (Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire / Advanced Generation series).

He's portrayed as a friendly, elderly retired sailor with a deep love for the sea. He lives a somewhat lonely life in retirement until he befriends a Wingull named Peeko, who becomes his inseparable companion and partner. In his youth, he was an adventurous seafarer who sailed the seven seas and had many exciting experiences on the water.

In the anime, he first meets Ash and his friends after they help rescue Peeko. Grateful, he gives them a ride on his small boat (the S.S. Wingull) from the mainland to Dewford Town (and later helps with other sea travels). He's depicted as cheerful, experienced, and still energetic about sailing despite his age, often sharing stories or showing his seafaring skills.

His key appearances are mainly in episodes like "On a Wingull and a Prayer!" and "Sharpedo Attack!", where he assists the group during their early Hoenn journey.
