Gardenia

Gardenia (known as Natane in Japanese) is the Eterna City Gym Leader in the Pokémon anime, specifically appearing in Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl. She specializes in Grass-type Pokémon and awards the Forest Badge to trainers who defeat her.

In the anime version, she has short hair that's half brown and half black (or sometimes described with orange tones), brown eyes, and wears a distinctive outfit including a black crop top under a green cloak with a black "X" mark, khaki shorts, and green boots—giving her a nature-themed, sporty look.

She's portrayed as eccentric, energetic, and cheerful, with a deep passion for nature, plants, and Grass-type Pokémon (she often gets giddy around them and loves hanging out in forests). She's friendly and quirky overall, but turns serious and competitive during battles. Interestingly, despite her expertise with Grass types, she's shown to have a notable fear of Ghost-type Pokémon.

She first meets Ash incognito before revealing her role as Gym Leader, and her battle with him highlights her strategic use of weather conditions and strong Grass Pokémon like Turtwig, Cherubi, and especially Roserade as her ace.
