Gurkinn

Gurkinn (known as Concombre in Japanese) is a character in the Pokémon anime, primarily appearing in the XY series.

He is an elderly man and the grandfather of Korrina, the Shalour City Gym Leader. Widely regarded as the "Mega Evolution Guru," Gurkinn is an expert on Mega Evolution, possessing deeper knowledge than even Professor Sycamore on the subject. He resides in or is closely associated with the Tower of Mastery in Shalour City and serves as a mentor figure in mastering Mega Evolution.

In the anime, he first appears in flashbacks and episodes involving Korrina's journey to obtain a Lucarionite and learn to control her Lucario's Mega Evolution. He tests trainers (including guiding events around Ash's group) to ensure they are worthy, demonstrates strong control over Mega Evolution himself (with his own Mega Lucario), and helps others overcome issues like losing control during the process. He's portrayed as wise, authoritative, and disciplined in his teachings about the power and responsibility tied to Mega Evolution.
