Molayne

Molayne is a supporting character in the Pokémon Sun & Moon anime series. He is Sophocles' older cousin and a close friend of Professor Kukui from their school days.

In the anime, Molayne is depicted as a kind, gentle, and intellectual researcher who runs the Hokulani Observatory on Ula'ula Island. He has a somewhat frail and delicate constitution (he's described as physically weak or not very robust). Despite this, he's reliable, helpful, and loyal—especially toward Kukui, whom he assists when needed.

He first properly appears during a school trip to the observatory, where he interacts with Ash and the class. His role emphasizes his scientific side, ties to astronomy/space-related themes (fitting the observatory setting), and family connection to Sophocles, rather than focusing heavily on battling (unlike his game counterpart's stronger emphasis on Steel-types and the Elite Four in later titles).
