Brawly is the Dewford Town Gym Leader in the Hoenn region, specializing in Fighting-type Pokémon in the Pokémon anime (primarily appearing in the Advanced Generation series, also known as Pokémon: Ruby and Sapphire arc).

He is depicted as a relatively muscular young man with spiky blue hair and blue eyes, often wearing a casual orange shirt (with black and white outlines) and, when surfing, orange shorts with teal stripes.

Brawly has a laid-back, calm personality and is deeply passionate about surfing, which he combines with his Pokémon training—he frequently surfs with them (like his Makuhita/Hariyama and Machop) to build their balance, dodging skills, and overall strength, likening battle movements to riding waves. He once trained alongside Chuck (the Cianwood Gym Leader) and serves as Ash's second Hoenn Gym challenge, where his team includes Machop and Makuhita (who evolves into Hariyama during their first battle). Ash initially loses by relying on raw power but wins the rematch by adapting to Brawly's fluid, wave-like style.
