Usopp is the sniper of the Straw Hat Pirates in the One Piece anime, serving as one of the crew's more unique and relatable members. He's the fourth to join (third after the initial trio), originally from Syrup Village in the East Blue.
Appearance-wise, he's a slim, tan-skinned young man with medium-length curly black hair, prominent lips, and most notably, an extremely long nose (inherited from his mother). He typically wears a bandana or kerchief (often yellow with a diamond pattern), special sniper goggles perched on his head, brown overalls/coveralls with a white sash, and goes shirtless underneath in many arcs.
Personality is where he really stands out—he's a compulsive liar who loves spinning wild, exaggerated tall tales (earning him the nickname "Long-nose" and tying into his Pinocchio-like nose). He's easily frightened, often cowardly, anxious, and insecure, frequently panicking or trying to flee from danger, which makes him the crew's main source of comic relief and the physically weakest fighter among them early on. Despite this, he's deeply compassionate, unselfish, and loyal to his friends. He dreams of becoming a brave warrior of the sea like his absent father (Yasopp, a sharpshooter with Shanks' crew), and over time he shows real growth in courage when it truly matters, especially for protecting others.
In battle, Usopp relies on incredible marksmanship with his slingshot (starting with the basic one, later upgrading models like the Kabuto and beyond), firing creative ammo like explosive stars, fire projectiles, or trick shots. He's highly inventive, crafting gadgets and weapons, and excels at deception, traps, and long-range support rather than direct confrontation.
Overall, he's the "everyman" of the crew—flawed, funny, and human—whose journey from chronic liar and scaredy-cat to someone who can step up heroically (even earning titles like "Sogeking" or "God Usopp" in key moments) makes him a fan-favorite for his development and relatability.
