Akitaru Ōbi

Akitaru Ōbi is the founding Captain (Battalion Commander) of Special Fire Force Company 8 in Fire Force.

He's a former regular firefighter who lacks any Ignition Ability (pyrokinesis) or supernatural powers, unlike most other company captains and many of his subordinates. Despite this, he compensates with exceptional physical strength and fitness from rigorous training, allowing him to directly confront and battle Infernals using specialized equipment, brute force, and tactical skill.

Ōbi is courageous, strong-willed, and highly respected as a leader, with a deep sense of justice and a protective attitude toward civilians and his team. He remains calm and cheerful most of the time but becomes fiercely determined (and angry) when innocent lives are threatened or toyed with. He views "putting Infernals to rest" as a tragic necessity rather than something to celebrate, showing empathy for the human victims of spontaneous human combustion.

In short, he's the ultimate "powerless but badass" leader archetype—relying on muscle, charisma, and moral conviction to lead Company 8 in uncovering the truth behind the Infernal phenomenon.
