Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor (also known as Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records) is a fantasy anime set in a world where magic is central to society.

The story follows Sistine Fibel (often called Sisti), a determined and talented young noble mage-in-training at the prestigious Alzano Imperial Magic Academy. She aims to uncover the secrets of the mysterious floating Sky Castle, fulfilling her late grandfather's wish. Her best friend Rumia Tingel accompanies her, though Rumia carries a hidden troubled past.

When their beloved instructor suddenly retires, he's replaced by Glenn Radars—a seemingly lazy, tardy, incompetent, and utterly uninterested "bastard" of a teacher who naps in class, avoids work, and appears hopeless at magic. This clashes hard with Sistine's high expectations and dedication, leading to plenty of comedic friction.

However, as threats emerge (including conspiracies and attacks tied to the empire and the academy), Glenn reveals a hidden side: he's actually a highly knowledgeable genius who deeply understands magic theory (even if his practical casting is limited), excels in clever tactics and hand-to-hand combat, and proves shockingly competent when it counts.

The series blends school life comedy, action-packed magical battles, character growth, and a bit of mystery as the group gets drawn into larger dangers. The anime adaptation (12 episodes, aired in 2017) covers the early arcs of the light novel series. It's a fun, light-hearted magic academy romp with a classic "lazy OP protagonist" twist!
