Keel

Keel is a supporting character in the anime The Rising of the Shield Hero (Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari).

Keel is a young dog demi-human (with dog-like ears and features) and a childhood friend of Raphtalia from her destroyed home village. After the devastation caused by the Waves, Keel ends up as a slave and is eventually purchased and freed by Naofumi Iwatani.

Keel joins Naofumi's group, helps rebuild the village, fights alongside the party, and becomes one of the loyal younger companions training under Naofumi. In the anime adaptation, Keel is initially presented and treated as male (with a tomboyish, boyish appearance and demeanor), and this is how the character is perceived for much of the story until a later reveal clarifies that Keel is biologically female (having not fully understood or learned about gender differences earlier due to her upbringing and circumstances).

Keel is energetic, brave, and eager to grow stronger to protect others, often participating in battles and village restoration efforts. Voiced by Natsumi Fujiwara (Japanese) and Kimlinh Tran (English).
