About Elrasla Ragnarok

Elrasla Ragnarok (also known as Granny or Babā) is an elderly but extremely powerful martial artist in the anime adaptation of The Rising of the Shield Hero.

She is the last remaining master and sole successor of the Hengen Musou style (often translated as Peerless Transformation Style or similar), a highly adaptable and versatile martial arts technique focused on using life force/energy and fluid combat adaptability rather than relying solely on weapon skills.

In the anime (particularly starting from Season 1 and becoming more prominent in Season 2), she is first encountered as a frail, bedridden old woman on the verge of death due to illness. Naofumi Iwatani (the Shield Hero) heals her using a special medicine enhanced by his shield's abilities, which not only cures her but also restores much of her youthful vigor and strength despite her advanced age—she jokingly claims her level matches her age (around 90+).

Grateful to Naofumi (whom she reveres as a "saint" or savior), she comes out of retirement and later serves as a combat instructor/trainer. She is commissioned by Queen Mirellia to help train the heroes and their parties in preparation for the Waves. She takes a special interest in Rishia Ivyred, recognizing her rare talent and accepting her as an apprentice to teach Hengen Musou principles.

Elrasla is portrayed as feisty, blunt, lively, and incredibly strong for her appearance—often surprising others with her combat prowess and no-nonsense attitude. She appears as a supporting character, mainly in arcs involving training and village development.
