Biscas T. Balmus

Biscas T. Balmus (also commonly referred to as the High Priest or Pope) is a major antagonist in the anime adaptation of The Rising of the Shield Hero.

He serves as the highest authority and leader of the Church of the Three Heroes in the Kingdom of Melromarc. He is a corrupt, fanatical, and hypocritical figure who outwardly presents himself as a pious religious leader speaking in the name of divine mercy and guidance, but secretly harbors ambitions to overthrow the royal family and seize control of the kingdom.

In the anime, he orchestrates a large-scale plot involving his followers, using deceptive tactics, powerful replica legendary weapons, and the church's influence to target the Four Cardinal Heroes (including Naofumi) — ultimately declaring some of them "fake" and positioning himself as a god-like figure. His actions culminate in a major confrontation where his true ruthless nature is exposed, leading to his defeat and death at the hands of Naofumi (with assistance from others).

Notably, his full name "Biscas T. Balmus" is revealed specifically in the anime version and does not appear in the original light novels or manga. He is voiced by Takayuki Sugou in Japanese and Christopher Corey Smith in the English dub.
