Kanon

Kanon (also known as Hero Kanon) is a legendary figure from 2,000 years before the main events of The Misfit of Demon King Academy anime. He was the great human hero who fought against Demon King Anos Voldigoad during the Great War between demons and humans.

In the anime's backstory (shown in flashbacks and explained through the plot), Kanon was renowned for his immense strength, courage, and compassion. He wielded the powerful holy sword Evansmana (the Sword of Three Races) and possessed seven sources, making him nearly impossible to kill permanently due to his reincarnation-like revival ability. Despite being humanity's champion and trained under the strict Jerga, Kanon was a true ideal hero at heart—he prioritized protecting the innocent, showed great willpower (continuing to fight even after extreme suffering), and ultimately sought peace rather than endless vengeance against demons.

He made a pact with Anos to sacrifice himself (along with other key figures) to create a barrier ensuring lasting peace, though history was later distorted in the present day. In the anime (particularly toward the end of Season 1 and into Season 2), his true reincarnation is revealed as Lay Glanzudlii (also called Lay Gransdori or similar in some translations), a transfer student and skilled swordsman at the Demon King Academy who becomes Anos's friend and respects him deeply. As Lay, he carries forward Kanon's desire for harmony between races.

Overall, anime Kanon embodies the archetype of a noble, determined hero who values peace and friendship above hatred, even if it meant extreme personal sacrifices.
