Lakan

Lakan (also referred to as Kan Lakan) is a secondary character in the anime The Apothecary Diaries (Season 1). He is a high-ranking military tactician and strategist in the Li court's army, as well as the head of the influential La Clan.

In terms of appearance, he is depicted as a middle-aged man with dark hair, striking blue eyes (a trait shared with his daughter), and a somewhat unkempt, scruffy look despite wearing standard court official attire. He notably wears a monocle over his right eye, adding to his eccentric vibe.

Personality-wise, Lakan is highly eccentric and quirky — often described as a "lazy genius." He's a brilliant tactician specializing in strategy games like Go and Shogi (and applies similar thinking to military and political matters), but he's socially awkward, poor at everyday practicalities, and tends to laze around, gossip, or speak in riddles and provocations while maintaining a jovial, carefree demeanor. He's known among peers as sly, meddlesome, and calculating (sometimes called a "sly fox"), though he relies heavily on capable subordinates to handle most work. His behavior and obsessions (particularly tied to certain people from his past) make him come across as odd and annoying to many, including Maomao, but he shows layers of depth, protectiveness, and underlying affection as his role unfolds in the story.

He's Maomao's biological father (though this connection is complicated and revealed gradually), and much of his anime portrayal in Season 1 revolves around his mysterious, provocative interactions and backstory elements.
