Alabaster

Alabaster (also known as the Great Sage) is a key supporting character in the anime Tales of Wedding Rings. He appears as an elderly man with gray shoulder-length hair, brown eyes, a beard, and typically wears robes while carrying a staff.

In the story, he acts as Hime's protective grandfather figure (though his exact relation has nuances in the plot). He is a powerful wizard and sage from the fantasy world, specifically tied to the Light Kingdom as the Great Sage. Ten years before the main events, he brought Hime to Earth (Japan) through a portal he created to safeguard her and the Ring of Light from threats like the Abyss King.

Alabaster is wise, knowledgeable about rings and magic, and serves as a mentor/guide to the protagonist Satou (who calls him "Gramps," as does Hime). He explains key lore elements, such as how the rings draw power from marriage bonds, and helps prepare Satou for battles while working to protect the group from dangers.

Voiced by Shigeru Chiba in Japanese (and Max Hartman in English), he's portrayed as a caring, strategic elder who prioritizes the safety of Hime and the Ring King.
