Sabrina is the Gym Leader of Saffron City in the Pokémon anime (original series), specializing in Psychic-type Pokémon. She is known as the "Master of Psychic Pokémon" and is one of the more memorable and eerie characters from Ash's early Kanto journey.
In the anime, Sabrina appears as a cold, emotionless, and detached young woman with long dark green hair and indigo eyes. She typically wears a red dress with yellow buttons and black boots. She possesses powerful psychic abilities herself (telekinesis, teleportation, turning people into dolls, etc.), which she developed from childhood but which grew so overwhelming that they caused a severe psychological split.
Her personality is divided: her main body is stoic, ruthless, and power-obsessed, showing almost no emotion and communicating minimally. A separate childish side of her personality manifests through a creepy doll she carries (resembling a younger version of herself with a summer hat), which speaks for her in a playful yet sinister way and represents the lonely, playful girl she suppressed.
This makes her one of the scariest Gym Leaders in the early series—her Saffron Gym feels more like a psychic institute, and she turns challengers (including Ash and friends) into dolls. Her arc resolves when Haunter's antics finally make her laugh, reuniting her split personality and restoring her to a kinder, more normal self with emotions and a genuine smile.
She uses Pokémon like Kadabra (her main one in the battles) and later Haunter joins her after the events. Overall, the anime portrays her as a tragic, powerful figure shaped by unchecked psychic gifts rather than just a straightforward trainer.
