In the anime, Spenser is portrayed as a wise, kind, and understanding elderly man with a calm, mystical demeanor. He prefers battling in natural outdoor environments (like jungles or open areas) rather than strictly inside the Battle Palace facility. He demonstrates deep care for Pokémon, such as nursing injured ones back to health and showing respect toward his opponents and their bonds with their Pokémon.

Physically, he's depicted as a tall, thin, bald older man with brown skin, a long white beard and eyebrows, closed eyes (giving him a serene expression), and distinctive blue tattoos on his arms resembling Kyogre's markings.
