Johanna

Johanna is Dawn's mother in the Pokémon anime (specifically in the Diamond and Pearl series). She is a former highly accomplished Top Pokémon Coordinator who won the Sinnoh Grand Festival and earned the Ribbon Cup in her younger days before retiring to raise her family in Twinleaf Town.

She is depicted as a kind, caring, loving, supportive, and intelligent parent who is very proud of Dawn and understands her daughter deeply. Johanna often provides wise advice and encouragement to Dawn over the phone during her journey, helping her grow as a Coordinator without putting undue pressure on her. When Dawn set out on her adventure, Johanna gave her one of her old contest ribbons as a good-luck charm and a practical backpack instead of an overloaded suitcase.

Her main Pokémon companions are Glameow (a longtime partner from her coordinating days, now a family pet) and Umbreon (which she used in battles, including a friendly double battle against Dawn). Overall, she's portrayed as a nurturing, level-headed figure who inspires Dawn while emphasizing personal growth and bonds over just winning.
