Giovanni

Giovanni is the shadowy and ruthless leader (or "Boss") of Team Rocket in the Pokémon anime series. He serves as the primary overarching antagonist, though he appears relatively infrequently compared to his bumbling subordinates Jessie, James, and Meowth.

In terms of appearance, he's depicted as a middle-aged man with short brown hair, black eyes, and a perpetually sinister or serious expression. He typically wears a formal black suit, white dress shirt, red tie, and black shoes, giving him a polished, business-like mafia boss vibe. His most iconic companion is his loyal Persian, which is often seen by his side (or on his lap) as a pampered pet, contrasting with how he treats most other Pokémon as tools or assets.

Personality-wise, Giovanni is cold, calculating, ambitious, and merciless. He views Pokémon primarily as means to gain power, wealth, and dominance rather than companions, and he's willing to exploit or experiment on them (as seen with his involvement in Mewtwo's creation in the first movie and specials). He often grows frustrated with the repeated failures of his underlings but remains composed and intimidating. While he was formerly the Gym Leader of Viridian City (specializing in Ground-type Pokémon like Persian, Rhydon, and others), he operates mostly from behind the scenes, directing criminal operations to steal rare or powerful Pokémon.
