Falkner

Falkner (known as Hayato in Japanese) is the Violet City Gym Leader in the Johto region, specializing in Flying-type Pokémon. He appears in the anime during Ash's early Johto journey, specifically in the episode "Fighting Flyer with Fire" (his only major appearance).

In the anime, Falkner is depicted as a kind yet fierce and dedicated trainer who deeply loves and respects Flying-types. He enjoys soaring through the skies himself—often using a hang-glider alongside his Pokémon—to better understand and bond with them. He has a strong sense of pride in bird Pokémon and dislikes the common notion that they're weak to Electric attacks, which he aims to disprove through battle.

His team in the gym battle against Ash includes Hoothoot, Dodrio (despite not being Flying-type, it fits his style), and his ace Pidgeot, which he also uses for flying around.

Overall, he's portrayed as a serious, somewhat stoic young man with a close, almost reverent connection to his Pokémon, focused on proving the elegance and power of Flying-types.
