Aila is a character from the Pokémon anime, specifically appearing in the special episode "The Legend of X, Y, and Z!" in Pokémon the Series: XYZ (the Kalos region arc).
She is portrayed as a kind, compassionate young woman from a village in ancient Kalos (around 3,000 years before the main story). As the daughter of a village elder and the love interest of a man named Jan, she tries to dissuade him from recklessly pursuing the legendary Pokémon Yveltal (the Destruction Pokémon), but he refuses.
When Yveltal unleashes its destructive power and targets Jan with its petrifying attack, Aila selflessly jumps in front to protect him. She takes the hit herself, turning into stone (petrified) in the process. Jan survives but is heartbroken, placing her statue in a safe cave. Even after Xerneas later restores life to the devastated region, Aila remains petrified and is never revived in the legend.
In the present day (the anime's timeline), her petrified form is discovered and studied by Professor Sycamore and Alexa as part of exploring the origins of the XYZ legend involving Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde.
She's essentially a tragic figure central to the ancient Kalos backstory shown in that episode—no ongoing role beyond the flashback/legend narrative.
