Ray Starling

Ray Starling is the main protagonist of the Infinite Dendrogram anime. He's a young man (a recent high school graduate and soon-to-be college freshman in the real world) who dives into the VRMMO Infinite Dendrogram two years after its launch, adopting the in-game name "Ray Starling" (a play on his real name, Reiji Mukudori).

In the anime, his avatar appears as a young Western-looking man with blond hair. He starts as a beginner player in the Kingdom of Altar, quickly teaming up with his Embryo companion Nemesis (a sentient, girl-like AI partner who fights alongside him as a weapon).

Personality-wise, Ray is portrayed as kind-hearted, compassionate, and possessing a strong sense of justice. He has a strong-willed nature that allows him to stand firm against overwhelming odds, despair, or adversity—he refuses to back down when he sees people (whether players or NPCs) in pain or facing tragedy, often rushing in to help even if it's risky. This leads him into major conflicts early on, earning him a reputation as "the Unbreakable" after key battles.

He's generally gentle and determined, though not a flawless saint—he's just someone trying his best to prevent bad outcomes and protect others in the game world. The anime emphasizes his heroic tendencies and growth as he navigates the game's unique mechanics and dangers.
