Mariko Kurama (also known as Number 35 or Mariko) is a young Diclonius girl in Elfen Lied, the biological daughter of Chief Kurama. She's depicted as one of the most powerful Diclonii (especially in the anime, with around 26-33 invisible telekinetic "vectors" with an 11-meter range; the manga gives her even more).
Raised in extreme isolation from infancy inside a steel container at the Diclonius Research Institute, she has atrophied limbs and uses a wheelchair. Her upbringing involved minimal human contact (mostly through a scientist acting as a surrogate mother via monitors), and bombs were implanted in her body to control her.
Personality-wise, she's childlike and psychologically developed despite her environment, but extremely sadistic and homicidal — she views killing and torturing as playful fun, similar to a child harming insects, rather than outright malice. She can show genuine care, particularly toward her father Kurama.
(She's a tragic, antagonist figure shaped by abuse and isolation, appearing mainly in the later episodes/chapters.)
