Lucy

Lucy (real name: Kaede) is the main protagonist and central figure in Elfen Lied.

She is a Diclonius, a mutant species with invisible telekinetic "vectors" (arms) capable of extreme violence, and she possesses two distinct personalities:

• Lucy — Her primary, cold, ruthless, and deeply traumatized personality. She is responsible for most of the brutal killings in the series and harbors intense hatred toward humans due to severe abuse and experimentation she endured as a child.
• Nyuu — An innocent, childlike, amnesiac persona that emerges after severe head trauma. Nyuu is gentle, clumsy, almost nonverbal at first (mostly saying only "Nyuu~"), and completely unaware of Lucy's violent actions.

The duality between these two personalities, combined with her tragic backstory and the question of whether redemption or monstrous nature defines her, forms the emotional core of the series.
