Son Goku is the main protagonist of the Dragon Ball anime series (and its continuations like Dragon Ball Z, GT, and Super). In the classic Dragon Ball anime, he's introduced as a cheerful, incredibly strong young boy (later teen and adult) with wild, spiky black hair that stays pointed upward, a monkey-like tail (which he loses early on), and usually wearing his signature orange gi martial arts uniform.
Raised in isolation on a mountain after losing his adoptive grandfather, Goku starts off naive, innocent, and somewhat socially clueless — he doesn't understand many basic human customs, has a huge appetite (eating massive amounts of food is a running gag), and speaks in a straightforward, honest way. A childhood head injury erased his original violent instincts (he's actually a Saiyan alien sent to conquer Earth as a baby, originally named Kakarot), turning him into a pure-hearted, kind, and carefree person who loves fighting strong opponents purely for the thrill and challenge of getting better.
Throughout the anime, Goku is defined by his endless enthusiasm for training and battles, his protective nature toward friends and Earth, his remarkable combat intuition, and his ability to stay optimistic even in dire situations. He's never truly malicious, always prefers fair fights, and has a childlike joy in discovering new powerful adversaries or techniques.
