About Genya Shinazugawa

Genya Shinazugawa is a major supporting character in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is a Demon Slayer in the Corps and the younger brother of the Wind Hashira, Sanemi Shinazugawa.

He has a tall, muscular build with a rough, intimidating appearance: dark purple inward-slanting eyes, a permanent furrowed brow giving him an angry expression, a large jagged scar across his right cheek and nose, and black hair styled in a mohawk-like cut with strands framing his neck. He wears a dark olive-green variation of the standard Demon Slayer uniform and bears numerous scars on his body.

Genya stands out among Demon Slayers because he cannot use Breathing Styles. Instead, he wields a Nichirin shotgun (firing special pellets) alongside a wakizashi, and possesses a rare ability to consume demon flesh, temporarily gaining demonic traits like enhanced strength, regeneration, and senses (without fully turning into a demon, due to his unique physiology).

His personality starts off as gruff, foul-mouthed, ill-tempered, and aggressive—he often rejects help and acts rudely. Beneath this tough exterior, however, he is deeply kind, shy, determined, and driven by a desire to reconcile with his estranged brother and protect others.
