Full Dive: This Ultimate Next-Gen Full Dive RPG Is Even Shittier than Real Life! (original Japanese title: Kyuukyoku Shinka shita Full Dive RPG ga Genjitsu yori mo Kusoge Dattara) is a 2021 comedy anime (12 episodes) that parodies VRMMO isekai tropes by turning the "ultimate realistic full-dive RPG" into an absolute nightmare.
Quick synopsis: High schooler Yuuki Hiroshi (or Hiro) is a pretty average, unlucky guy having a rough day in real life. Desperate for an escape, he gets convinced by a store clerk to buy Kiwame Quest, an old, hyper-realistic full-dive VRMMO advertised as the most immersive game ever made. It replicates every sensation perfectly—including pain, smells, tastes, and injuries that affect your real body over time (with no easy mode or cheats).
Excited at first, Hiroshi dives in only to discover the game is a brutally difficult, unforgiving "kusoge" (shitty game) far worse than his already crappy real life. His real-world stats and skills carry over directly (meaning he's weak and unskilled there too), everything hurts like hell, simple tasks become torturous ordeals, and misfortune piles on in absurd, over-the-top ways. What starts as an escape becomes a stressful, painful grind filled with slapstick suffering, crude humor (lots of bodily function gags), quirky NPCs, and a persistent NPC girl named Reona who torments him further.
The series is a dark comedy about enduring extreme hardship for the tiniest sense of accomplishment, poking fun at gamer escapism and "realistic" game tropes. It's chaotic, frequently mean-spirited, and not for everyone—but if you like anti-hero suffering comedies (similar vibes to Cautious Hero by the same author), it delivers on the "even shittier than real life" promise in ridiculous fashion.
